PLAINVIEW, TX — “Moments in Time,” a one-of-a-kind, framed acrylic painting by Rodney Watson valued at $4,750 is on display during Wayland Baptist University 2024 Homecoming celebration, and someone is going to take the 24-by-30-inch framed artwork home Saturday.
As Homecoming festivities got underway with a virtual military reunion Wednesday afternoon, Wayland’s Alumni Association put the painting on the auction block, where it will remain while Homecoming takes place through Saturday night.
“You have the opportunity to bid on this wonder piece created by Rodney Watson, a 1995 graduate,” said Jeffrey Vera, Director of Alumni Relations. “The bidding started at $250, but we expect for it to go up rapidly. You better get your first bid in early and keep your bid in the lead throughout the weekend. Otherwise, someone else is going to be enjoying this beautiful painting.”
Vera said online and in-person bidding on the artwork, which includes a framed legend detailing the Wayland moments in the painting, is offered during Homecoming weekend.
“It will be on display throughout the Flying Queens and Pioneers basketball games with opportunities to bid,” Vera said. Online bidding takes place on the Wayland Alumni Association Facebook page.
“We are excited to provide an opportunity for alumni and friends, who are supporters of Wayland and the WBU Alumni Association, to have a one-of-a-kind piece to put in their office or home,” Vera said.
Wayland Alumni Association benefits from the auction.
