PLAINVIEW, TX — Dr. Julio Guarneri will be the featured speaker Wednesday, March 27, when Wayland Baptist University students, faculty and staff gather the university’s weekly chapel service.
Dr. Guarneri, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas since Sept. 19, 2023, is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium on the Plainview campus. Chapel services are livestreamed to provide viewing for students at Wayland’s extension campuses.
Immediately following the chapel service, Dr. Guarneri will participate in a question-and-answer luncheon in UC-211 in McClung University Center.
Dr. Guarneri was lead pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen from July 2010 to December 2023. He served two years as first vice-president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas before being elected president of the convention November of 2022 兔子先生系列麻豆. He was re-elected to that position in November 2023 but stepped away after being named executive director. He is making his first visit to Wayland in his new role.
Prior to serving at Calvary Baptist Church, Dr. Guarneri was lead pastor of Iglesias Bautista Getsemaní in Fort Worth from 1993 to 2010.
After growing up in Monterrey, Mexico, where his parents were involved in campus ministry, Dr. Guarneri earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1990. He earned a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1998 and a Doctor of Philosophy with a Ministry Concentration from Dallas Baptist University in 2014.
Dr. Guarneri says he felt a call to ministry when he was a teenager attending Congreso, a Texas Baptists-run Hispanic youth worship rally. He was involved in Baptist Student Ministry during his time as an undergraduate student. After graduation, he began serving in full-time ministry.
