PLAINVIEW, TX — Dr. Richard Fountain, dean of the Wayland Baptist University School of Creative Arts and professor of piano at the university, has been honored by Music Teachers National Association as an MTNA Foundation Fellow.
The MTNA Foundation Fellow program recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to music teaching. Dr. Fountain was recognized during the 2024 MTNA National Conference. The award is bestowed when a peer or group of peers donates $1,500 to the MTNA Foundation Fund in the individual’s name.
“It is a great honor to have been named the 2024 MTNA Fellow for the state of Texas,” Dr. Fountain said. “So many distinguished teachers have received this award in the past for their lifelong service to Texas teachers and students, and it is truly meaningful to join their company.”
Dr. Fountain serves as principal keyboard for Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. He is the current president of the Texas Music Teachers Association, and he has received awards for achievement, teaching and service from the Nebraska Alumni Association, the Lubbock Music Teachers Association, and from his colleagues at Wayland. He was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in 2021.
Dr. Fountain holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Taylor University, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Wayland.
