PLAINVIEW, TX — From the late Renaissance music of composer Giovanni Palestrina to that of country music legend Dolly Parton, there will be something for everyone during a spring concert presented by Wayland Baptist University’s International Choir and Wayland Singers.

Titled Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, the concert is slated for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, in Harral Memorial Auditorium on the Plainview campus. Admission is free.

“The musical selections will foster awareness of the past through folk songs of American and international traditions. We will honor the experiences of today as we consider the trials in life and our search for spiritual support. Then, we will look forward to bright tomorrows with music of hope and joy,” said Dr. Sarah Herrington, Director of Choral Studies and Assistant Professor of Music Education.

One highlight of the concert will be the premiere of a work newly commissioned for Wayland’s choirs.

“Dr. Byron Rogers from Lubbock Christian University has composed a two-movement work for us using texts from American poet, Alice Greenwood,” Dr. Herrington said.  “The work is titled Verses of Spring, and it will be premiered by the International Choir.”

The conductor noted that the concert will include a great variety of music in styles, composers, and time periods. She noted that while Palestrina and worked from 1595-1594, Dolly Parton was born in 1946 and continues to perform today.

“There really will be something for everyone,” Dr. Herrington said.
