PLAINVIEW, TX — Wayland Baptist University proudly enters a new chapter today with the arrival of Dr. Donna Hedgepath, its 14th president. She is the first woman to lead the 115-year-old institution.
Dr. Hedgepath joins Wayland from Campbellsville University in Kentucky, where she served as provost and was instrumental in driving exponential enrollment growth at the multi-campus Baptist university.
“It is an honor to join Wayland at such an exciting time,” said Dr. Hedgepath. “Building on the strong foundation laid by Dr. J.H. Wayland in 1908 and following in the footsteps of the distinguished presidents before me, we will pioneer new paths and elevate our commitment to excellence. It is exciting to be at Wayland because we are having our best year yet.”
As the new president, Dr. Hedgepath is eager to collaborate with faculty, staff, students and alumni to continue to move Wayland forward.
“Collectively, we can move this university forward,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “I am dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration and exhortation that benefits the entire Wayland family and the communities we serve.”
Dr. Hedgepath has prioritized student success, development, and service, emphasizing cooperation and forward-thinking strategies.
“By working together, we can ensure that Wayland remains a beacon of academic excellence in higher education,” she said.
Dr. Hedgepath also expressed enthusiasm about becoming an active member of the community, noting she is eager to contribute and engage with business and church leaders.
