Student Access and Success partnership renewed with Texas Tech Engineering

PLAINVIEW, TX — Wayland Baptist University is pleased to announce renewal of a partnership with Texas Tech University aimed at enhancing access to engineering education for students across the region.

The collaboration supports the State of Texas' “Building a Talent Strong Texas” initiative, which promotes access, affordability, quality, success, and cost efficiency in higher education. The renewed agreement creates streamlined pathways for students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering at TTU’s Whitacre College of Engineering after completing foundational coursework at Wayland.

“We are thrilled to continue to partner with Texas Tech University to provide our students with expanded opportunities in engineering,” said Dr. William Hahn, Associate Dean of the Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences and Wayland’s designated point of contact for the program. “This partnership supports the state’s goals for higher education and aligns with our commitment to fostering professional success and service to God and humankind.”

Key Highlights of the Student Access and Success Partnership:

  1. Transfer Pathways: Wayland students can complete an engineering transfer curriculum at WBU and then transfer to Tech to continue their studies. The agreement guarantees students who meet specific academic criteria, including a minimum cumulative GPA and completion of required coursework, are admitted to TTU’s engineering programs.
  2. Scholarship Opportunities: Transfer students from WBU to TTU are eligible for specific scholarships, making higher education more affordable and accessible.
  3. Seamless Transition: The collaboration ensures course equivalency evaluations are up-to-date and readily available, facilitating a smooth transition for students. Both institutions are committed to providing comprehensive academic advising and support throughout the transfer process.
  4. Reverse Transfer Degrees: The agreement also includes provisions for reverse transfer articulated baccalaureate degrees, allowing students who transfer to Tech to receive their Wayland degree in Mathematics upon meeting certain requirements.
  5. Quality Education: All courses under this agreement will be taught by qualified faculty with the appropriate credentials, ensuring students receive high-quality education throughout their academic journey.

The renewal means the partnership will continue through 2029, with the possibility of another extension. This collaboration underscores Wayland’s commitment to creating a supportive and accessible learning environment for all students, ensuring they are well-prepared for professional careers in engineering and beyond.
