Inauguration of Dr. Donna Hedgepath as 14th president set for Monday

PLAINVIEW — Wayland Baptist University announces the inauguration of Dr. Donna R. Hedgepath as its 14th president at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, in Harral Memorial Auditorium on Wayland’s Plainview campus.

The public is invited to join the Wayland community in this celebration and to witness the formal installation of Dr. Hedgepath as she officially assumes leadership of the university. Dr. Hedgepath began her duties July 1, following the announcement in January of her selection by the Board of Trustees.

The ceremony will feature inspiring addresses, music, and a reaffirmation of Wayland’s mission to deliver transformative, Christian-rooted education. Dr. Hedgepath’s inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter for Wayland Baptist University. Known for her dynamic vision and passion for student success, Dr. Hedgepath is leading Wayland into an era of growth, innovation, and dedication to service.

“This will be a historic moment for Wayland Baptist University as we inaugurate Dr. Donna Hedgepath as our 14th president,” said Mark Jones, chair of the Board of Trustees. “Dr. Hedgepath brings a unique blend of educational success, academic program innovation, integrity, and vision, alongside a deep commitment to faith and community.”

Among the list of invited speakers are Dr. Julio Guarneri, Executive Director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; Hon, Pete Laney, former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives; and Dr. Paul Armes, President Emeritus of Wayland Baptist University. Representing Campbellsville University in Kentucky will be Dr. Joe Hopkins, President; Dr. H. Keith Spears, Chancellor Emeritus; Twyla Hernández, Professor of Christian Missions and Director of Faith Ministry; and Dr. Jeanette Parker, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The community is also invited to a public reception for Dr. Hedgepath from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Atrium of the J.E. and L.E. Mabee learning Resources Center, which is in the center of the campus.

Dr. Hedgepath, a distinguished academic leader, previously served as vice president and provost at Campbellsville University. She is recognized for her commitment to fostering a Christ-centered academic environment and for ensuring students are prepared for both professional success and lives of purpose and integrity.
