University-wide tuition freeze announced for 2025-2026 academic year

PLAINVIEW — In a bold move that underscores Wayland Baptist University’s commitment to students and their families, Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president, announced today a university-wide tuition freeze for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Dr. Hedgepath made the announcement with a heartfelt message to students, their families, and the entire Wayland community.

“We hear you,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “We understand the financial worries that keep students and parents up at night. This decision is about keeping dreams within reach and showing our community that we truly care.”

This significant decision, the first of its kind in more than two decades, halts any increase across all tuition categories, online and in-person, and includes undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees. This rare step reaffirms Wayland’s mission to make quality, Christ-centered higher education accessible and affordable for all.

“This tuition freeze is more than a financial decision; it’s a statement of who we are as a university. We recognize the economic challenges of today and the pressures these obstacles place on students and their families,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “Whether it’s a first-year freshman on our residential campus in Plainview or a working adult taking courses online or at one of our external campuses, we are deeply committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue academic excellence in a supportive Christian environment without the added burden of rising tuition costs.”

The tuition freeze reflects Dr. Hedgepath’s vision for the university’s future.

“As we look forward, our focus remains on serving the diverse communities who trust us with their education,” she said. “This freeze is a tangible expression of our mission to honor and uplift our students. It’s our gift to them this Christmas season, and a reminder of Wayland’s dedication to both affordability and excellence,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “By keeping tuition steady, we hope to provide families with peace of mind as they plan for the year ahead.”

The announcement also highlights Wayland’s continued commitment to active-duty military personnel. The university will maintain its policy of matching tuition costs to the Tuition Assistance cap, ensuring affordability for those serving the nation while pursuing their education.

Wayland’s tuition freeze reinforces its mission to serve as a beacon of educational and spiritual leadership. With more than a century of service, the university remains dedicated to providing exceptional value to students and their families.
