Summer Missions

This summer, WBU students have an opportunity to embark on one of two life-changing trips through Wayland Missions. These trips range from in-country to far across the seas but are equally important to both the mission fields and the missionaries. For some, this summer will be the first time they experience any type of missions, and for others, it is a way of life. Regardless of novice or expert, all have the same goal: to spread God’s Word across the globe.

The first mission trip will be June 8-15 in Soldotna, Alaska. Five students and a Wayland football coach, Marcos Hinojos, will be participating in this trip. There, the group and others from across the nation will be coming together to host Kenai Peninsula Sports Camp. This camp consists of flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and archery. In the mornings, the missionaries will go out into the town of Soldotna to do community service work, then in the afternoons, they will report to the sports camp, where they will lead kids aged 8-14 in activities, Bible study breakout groups, and full-group Bible sessions. Students going are Alex Clements, Dylan McDougal, who both participated in last year’s Alaska mission, Annalicia Hernandez, Jazmine Jackson, and Mikayla Shires.

The second mission trip will be July 28-August 5 in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. There, student missionaries will teach young boys how to play baseball while building relationships with them. They will have daily Bible studies and home visits, building lasting relationships with the young men and their families while spreading God’s love with them. The site will partner with a public school to work with in the mornings, and host a variety of local baseball teams in the afternoon. Participants will be assisting in Bible studies and practices, as well as sharing their own testimony with the young boys they encounter. Those going on this mission are Donnie Brown, WBU baseball head coach Todd Weldon, and student Jeremy Bolligar.

From Alaska to the Dominican Republic, Wayland missionaries are taking the opportunities laid out before them to spread God’s love and make a difference, and we fully believe that they will.

Please join us in praying for these summer missionaries as they prepare for their upcoming trips.
