Programs & Majors
The School of Nursing offers both graduate students a Master of Science in nursing (MSN) program and undergraduate bachelor’s in science in nursing (BSN) programs. The MSN program has an education focus and a unique embedded business course that provides students with necessary budgeting, recruiting, and marketing skills.
Students in the BSN and MSN programs are led by knowledgeable faculty dedicated to Wayland’s faith-based education and helping students achieve their academic and career goals. The School of Nursing ensures students receive exemplary education by maintaining small class and cohort sizes.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program
The WBU program provides the student the ability to complete a BSN degree in just two years after completing the general education core. This program is offered face-to-face with real world clinical experiences, as well as skills lab and simulation experiences. Contact the nursing school to find out the cost of these fees. WBU offers 3 distinct tracks to earn a BSN degree. The generic BSN track is for students with no previous nursing experience. The LVN-BSN track allows Licensed Vocational Nurses to receive credit for their previous course work and work experience while furthering their education to become a licensed Registered Nurse with a BSN degree. The newest addition to the BSN programs at Wayland, the RN-BSN track allows licensed Registered Nurses to complete their BSN degree 100% online!
BSN Curriculum Plan
Unified General Education Core: 42-45 hours
The Unified General Education Core is required for all bachelor’s degrees at WBU. Transfer credits may be considered.
BSN Specific Core Requirements
The BSN degree provides students the ability to complete a degree in two years after completing the general education core. In addition to the Unified General Education Core, students must complete the following degree specific general education requirements for the BSN degree:
- 3 hrs
- 3 hrs 1
- 8 hours from: 4 hrs and 4 hrs or 4 hrs and 4 hrs
- 4 hrs
- 3 hrs 2
- EXSS Activity 1 hrs3
- 3 hrs
NOTES:
- Students in the L.V.N. to B.S.N. program are not required to take .
- Students may opt to test out of ; see course description.
- EXSS courses that can be used to fulfill this requirement include a statement to that effect in the course description. Students who have served two or more years in the Armed Forces are exempt from EXSS requirements with DD-214 from basic training.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program
The Master of Science in Nursing prepares nurses to be able to teach in either nursing education programs or other organizations that need an educator. It also prepares nurses with the ability to manage an educational program. The degree focuses on curriculum development, teaching strategies, evaluation, and adult learning. It also has a second focus that educates the student in the areas of business. The degree requires 36 graduate hours for completion.
Students must have graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a program that has been accredited either by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. All students must have an unencumbered RN license for admission into the Nursing program.
Up to 12 hours of approved gradate credit from an accredited college or university may satisfy degree requirements. To attempt transfer from other institutions, a student must submit an official transcript of the courses to be considered and may also be required to submit a catalog description and course syllabus from the institution where the course was taken. The dean of the school and the vice president of academic affairs must approve transfer credit.
