Adjunct Instructor in Environmental Sciences

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (Online and/or in person)

SUPERVISED BY: Dean of Mathematics and Sciences 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt (Part-Time) 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:  None 

POSITION LONGEVITY: This is a one semester position and continued employment for this position is not guaranteed.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Adjunct Instructor will work under the supervision of the Dean or Executive Director/Campus Dean.  As a part-time instructor of WBU he/she will represent the University’s academic and spiritual emphases to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.                                                                                                                                                           

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Prepare and teach one 4-hour course.
  2. Assist in promoting academic programs and involvement with community activities.
  3. Must be able to teach online and maintain a constant presence in the course.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A completed Wayland Baptist University application for employment with statement consistent with WBU’s Christian mission.

Education:

  1. Master’s Degree required in area of instruction or any master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in area of instruction.
  2. Terminal Degree preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Recent high school or University experience as an instructor is preferred.
  2. Online teaching experience, including experience in Blackboard.
  3. Endorsement by the Dean of the Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences and the Academic Vice President.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Written and verbal communication.
  2. Proficiency with computer software and educational projection equipment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  If teaching in Plainview or an external campus, employee must be able and willing to travel and teach at the campus.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
