LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Student workers & Collaborates with Student Support Specialist
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Health Services coordinates healthcare services in a nurse-directed clinic for resident and commuter students at WBU’s Plainview campus.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To operate within the role of registered nurse (as defined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act) in meeting the health needs of Wayland students, with emphasis on student participation in care
- To attend to the health needs of other members of the university community on an emergency basis and have health services and as well as education available to faculty, staff, and administration when feasible
- To serve as primary health educator by providing ongoing health and wellness education through patient contact and campus presentations when required
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with residence life, counseling, campus ministries, athletic coaches and trainers, and other faculty and staff when addressing campus health issues
- To be responsible for budgeting and purchase of all medication and equipment
- To oversee compliance with applicable OSHA, FERPA, and HIPPA regulations, with an emphasis on maintaining student confidentiality
- To oversee any contractual relationships between Wayland and other community healthcare entities
- Maintain positive rapport with students, faculty, staff and administrative
- Maintain regular clinic hours with the academic calendar defined in the university catalog. Additional summer hours will be maintained during the times various camps are being conducted and will also be utilized to input shot records and perform routine database maintenance
- Assess and treat all illnesses and injuries within the guidelines of the physician’s standing orders, including providing medications as needed
- Refer students requiring additional care to local physicians, dentists and other health entities. Arrange for transportation of students as needed
- Administer and maintain student health records through the EMR utilized by the university and ensure students comply with current immunization requirements per state/ national law or Wayland policy, including students at external campuses per state law
- Be available 24/7 via phone in case of emergency to consult or treat as needed
- Make day and evening calls to the dormitories if necessary
- Ensure students going to the local emergency room have assistance
- Obtain and manage student health insurance for all F-1 Visa international students throughout the Wayland system
- Maintain information on medical insurance policies available to students and assist students in navigating health insurance issues
- Continually seek ways to improve the services provided
- Collaborate with the Student Services Support Specialist for administrative support and scheduling
- Participate in campus activities as appropriate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Certification and License:
- Master's degree in nursing and current licensure in the State of Texas; or
- Bachelor's degree in nursing and current licensure in the State of Texas
Experience and Knowledge:
Two (2) years of experience in the field of nursing.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge and commitment to the care, development, and education of a diverse student population; assessment skills and critical thinking are a must
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Must possess good organizational skills and be able to prioritize needs while exhibiting a customer-oriented service with Christian values
- Proficient in operating a personal computer and in using a variety of software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; and be willing to learn other software as needed
- Ability to utilize good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under stress
- Ability to contribute to the spiritual, intellectual, and social life of each student who attends WBU
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the goals and lifestyle of Christian Higher Education and will help plan and participate in activities that develop leadership skills and reinforce Christian values
Work Environment: This is a Health Clinic environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The employee may be exposed to blood and body fluids while rendering first aid, CPR, and/or treating patients. The employee may interact with agitated individuals when interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Hours of Work: Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. External campuses - Although full-time, nonexempt external campus employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday
Physical Demands:
- Frequently stand and walk;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally push or pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently reach at or below should height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
