LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University – Arizona Campus: Phoenix
SUPERVISED BY: Phoenix Site Coordinator
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt; Part Time

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Academic Advisor serves the admissions office functions of the Phoenix sites of the Arizona Campus. This includes both recruitment and counseling functions. Provides personal assistance to students regarding degree plan and program requirements. Obtains information from all relevant sources. Analyzing information provided by students to evaluate and help students choose the best solutions. Translates or explains information on degree plan requirements and school policies. Communicates with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail. Provides guidance and expert advice on degree plans and policies and procedures to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process-related topics.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

- Advise individuals to help them understand their educational options
- Advise students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, study habits, and career planning
- Address community groups, faculty, and staff members to explain available services
- Assess needs for assistance such as financial aid, or additional education, and refer clients to the appropriate services, such as the Student Accounts Advisor
- Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students in determining and carrying out educational objectives
- Conduct follow-up interviews with students to determine if their needs have been met
- Provide back-up concerning Registrar functions
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students
- Assist Site Coordinator and office staff to meet the needs of the Phoenix sites
- Coordinates faculty, staff and student base\installation access for approval with security personnel
- Assist with graduation accurately and without delay
- Reviewing, creating and updating brochures and forms. This is a shared responsibility with the Administrative Assistant
- Ensuring the whiteboards, classrooms and offices present a clean work and study environment. This is a shared responsibility with the Administrative Assistant

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Certification and License:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Experience advising students in an academic setting preferred
- Principles, methods, and procedures for career counseling and guidance
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Knowledge of academic degree plans and requirements
- Administrative experience in a customer setting

Physical Demands:
- Frequently stand and walk;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally push or pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently reach at or below should height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
