Director of Undergraduate Admission

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus 

POSITION: Director of Undergraduate Admission 

SUPERVISED BY: Vice President of Enrollment Management 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Executive) 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Assistant Director of Admission – Recruiting; Assistant Director of Admission – Slate Management, Multiple Enrollment Coaches; Admission Specialist; La Familia Outreach Specialist; Admission Media Specialist; Student Workers 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Undergraduate Admission will effectively lead a dynamic team toward increasing quality enrollments on Wayland’s Plainview campus. The director will oversee all admission and recruitment strategies and be responsible for administering university admission policy.                                                                                      

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  1. Prepare and monitor annual department budget in accordance with established university policies and procedures
  2. Develop strategic planning goals and objectives for the Office of Admission in conjunction with the university’s strategic plan
  3. Manage, supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the Office of Admission
  4. Interview and select incoming staff as needed
  5. Evaluate work performance and provide constructive feedback to employees as needed
  6. Approve requests for vacation, sick, and other leaves of absence
  7. Issue admission decisions for undergraduate students pursuing non-BAS degrees on all Wayland campuses
  8. Oversee recruitment of concurrent students
  9. Serve as primary liaison between the Office of Admission and academic deans, faculty, Athletics, and other university units
  10. Serve as the Chair of the Admissions Committee and as a member of other university committees as assigned
  11. Lead the collaboration with faculty, staff and administration to ensure appropriate breadth of engagement related to the recruitment of undergraduate students on the Plainview campus
  12. Leverage data to inform decisions related to recruitment efforts
  13. Manage contracts with third-party enrollment partners to ensure effective enrollment strategies
  14. Ensure effective use of Slate, Gecko and other support software for recruitment purposes.
  15. Attend training, seminars and conferences, review professional literature, and participate in webinars and online learning opportunities to enhance recruitment and enrollment knowledge
  16. Oversee full-cycle calendar planning for Office of Admission
  17. Prepare and present admission reports as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptists in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.

Education:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required
  2. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Three or more years university/college recruitment/enrollment experience
  2. Three or more years of progressive management experience
  3. Thorough knowledge of higher education recruitment strategies and admission policies

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with faculty, students, and administrators across the entire university community
  2. Ability to collaborate effectively with others across the university community
  3. Strong management and leadership skills to build and lead a positive and effective team
  4. Ability to train personnel in current best-practices across the financial aid industry
  5. Independent problem solving, self-direction, and strong time management skills
  6. Strong organizational and analytical skills
  7. Skilled with industry technology including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  8. Familiarity with Slate CRM is preferred
  9. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize duties

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
