GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Student Achievement Coach (SAC) is responsible for leading the Student Achievement program in the Mieth School of Nursing. The SAC position is to positively impact academic achievement and retention through one-on-one and group academic coaching, academic advisement, and general support of student success.
Note: This grant position is currently funded through August 1, 2028, with employment beyond that date dependent upon an extension of the grant.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
- Provide one-on-one coaching and advisement sessions with nursing students to assess their academic needs, set goals, and develop personalized success plans.
- Collaborate with students to identify strengths and areas for improvement, offering guidance on study techniques, time management, and test-taking strategies.
- Conduct skill development sessions with cohorts during MSON orientation and as needed throughout the program, focused on study skills, time management, effective communication, stress management, and test-taking strategies.
- Collaborate with faculty to regularly monitor and track students’ academic progress and performance, identifying early signs of challenges and developing strategies to intervene.
- Assist students in connecting with and/or navigating academic resources, including online platforms, tutorial services, LRC/library, and research databases.
- Utilize data analytics tools to assess the effectiveness of academic support initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvement to the faculty team.
- Prepare regular reports on student success metrics, identifying trends and areas for enhancement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Required: Current unencumbered RN license in the state of Texas. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of nursing education, curriculum, and academic challenges faced by BSN students.
- Previous experience in coaching, mentoring, tutoring/teaching, or related roles.
Skills and Abilities:
- Dedicated to student development and success, able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and earn their trust and respect.
- Excellent oral, written, analytical and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent process management and organizational skills.
- Independent problem solving, self-direction, and strong time-management skills.
- Skilled with word processing spreadsheet, databases, PowerPoint, LMS, and other online platforms, e.g., ATI, Elsevier.
- Effective presentation skills in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers and leaders.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy.
Work Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employee will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The office maintains a controlled temperature. Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations and office machinery.
Hours of Work: Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday
Physical Demands:
- Frequently stand and walk;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally push or pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently reach at or below should height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
