Coordinator of Student Activities

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) - Plainview Campus 

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coordinator of Student Leadership and Activities is responsible for overseeing Student Activities. The Student Activities area is an integral part of Student Services, which serves to strengthen and renew students for their daily tasks, to build a spirit of Christian community on the campus and to provide students with a leadership forum for enhancing classroom learning. The Coordinator of Student Leadership and Activities is also responsible for overseeing all student organizations including the Student Government Association, Student Union Board and Student Senate. In this role, the Coordinator of Student Leadership and Activities will seek to encourage, equip and empower students to develop leadership capabilities.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES FOR STUDENT ACTIVITIES: Under the supervision of the Dean of Students, the applicant shall perform the following duties on Monday –Thursday from 8:15 am- 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:15 am-4:00 pm. (hours will include & may vary depending on late night and evening events):

  1. Designs, prepares and implements a comprehensive student activities program of the university, channeling students' time, talents and energies in a wide variety of co-curricular activities
  2. Serves as a key resource for students' social and leadership development
  3. Plans, promotes and carries out all campus student activities
  4. Serves as the official sponsor of Student Union Board (SUB) and includes the following duties: a. Managing SUB budget;
  5. Advising SUB on intended activities and events; c. Assist the SUB President when needed;
  6. Attending SUB meetings and activities
  7. Serves as the official sponsor of Student Government Association (SGA) and includes the following duties:
  8. Managing SGA budget;
  9. Advising SGA on intended activities and events; c. Assist the SGA President when needed;
  10. Attending SGA meetings and activities
  11. Serves as the sponsor of the Council of Student Organization (CSO) and includes the following duties:
  12. Managing the CSO's budget, which includes overseeing funds transferred from SGA;
  13. Assisting the CSO President when needed;
  14. Unofficially serving as an ex-officio member of every campus organization;
  15. Attending CSO meetings and activities
  16. Serves as the director of Koinonia, which is WBU's new student orientation program and is involved with other orientation activities
  17. Provides support for all Student Services programs
  18. Helps formulate or implement policies related to Office of Student Activities, Pete’s Place and Student Organizations
  19. Provides expert advice related to Student Activities to Directors, Deans and Administration related to Office of Student Activities, Pete’s Place and Student Organizations
  20. Resolves problems as they arise related to the Office of Student Activities, Pete’s Place and Student Organizations
  21. Supervises student workers in the office of Student Activities, as well as in Pete’s Place

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Certification and License:

Bachelor’s Degree is required.

Experience and Knowledge: Preferred

  1. Two (2) years experience in event planning
  2. Two (2) years experience working with college students
  3. Two (2) years direct supervision experience
  4. Experience working with volunteers and volunteer groups
  5. Experience working with senior management in corporations and other related organizations
  6. Marketing and community outreach
  7. Project management

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Proficient in operating a personal computer and in using a variety of software applications; particularly Access, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  2. Ability to plan long range and have the willingness to be hands on related to the duties of this position
  3. Ability to utilize good written and verbal communication skills
  4. Ability to anticipate problems and use good judgment in developing solutions
  5. Must be willing to work with other departments and individuals
  6. Ability to work with minimal supervision
  7. Be a self-starter, self-motivated and possess the ability to conceptualize processes
  8. Ability to contribute to the spiritual, intellectual and social life of each student who attends WBU.
  9. Adhere to the ethical and moral standards of the University
  10. A working knowledge of university policies and programs
  11. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
  12. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the goals and lifestyle of Christian Higher Education and will help plan and participate in activities which develop leadership skills and reinforce Christian values

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and teach at external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
