Executive Director/Campus Dean - Anchorage

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) Achorage Alaska                      

SUPERVISED BY: Vice President of External Campuses 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Executive) 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED BY: All WBU External Campus staff and faculty 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director/Campus Dean makes all the arrangements for facilities, equipment, and materials necessary to support WBU courses at the campus and any associated teaching sites.  Cultivates positive communications and relations with the local Baptist Churches, church staff and other church groups.  Accomplishes the initial screenings and assessments related to degree plans for degrees offered at the campus.  Recruits, screens, conducts orientations and supervises staff, faculty and adjunct faculty.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Plans, organizes and directs the operation of the campus.
  2. Employs, trains, supervises and evaluates staff.
  3. Prepares annual budget request and maintains financial effectiveness of the campus.
  4. Represents the campus before internal and external publics of the University.
  5. Plans, supervises and conducts registrations at the campus and on additional sites.
  6. Creates or oversees creation of initial worksheets for degree plans within the policies of WBU programs.
  7. Plans, implements and evaluates schedules for the campus.
  8. Recommends faculty for employment and facilitates faculty evaluation at the campus.
  9. Coordinates adequate orientation and training for new staff, faculty and adjunct faculty.
  10. Procures, maintains and controls facilities, furnishings, and equipment for the campus.
  11. Arranges for library resources for the campus, including any required written agreements with non-WBU institutions.
  12. Oversees processes for ordering, selling and delivering textbooks/supplies when applicable.
  13. Responsible for maintaining and reporting of student records and reports.
  14. Responsible for a thorough orientation for all new students.
  15. Plans and conducts graduation exercises at the campus.
  16. Responsible for planning, conducting and evaluating publicity.
  17. Serves as student and faculty advocate for academic, financial and other issues.
  18. Serves as liaison with the Plainview Campus administration.
  19. Establishes Administrative and Advisory Committees with support of the Vice President of External Campuses.
  20. Implements appropriate student activities programs at the campus.
  21. Provides documents, reports, or data requested by the university, the military, accreditation bodies or other appropriate entities.
  22. Manages vacation schedules, insurance and other faculty/staff issues in conjunction with affected offices on the Plainview Campus.
  23. Manages the financial aid programs for the students’ benefits.
  24. Controls all the non-WBU activities at the campus.
  25. Interfaces with other schools in the area.
  26. Represents WBU with the social and civic organizations in the community.
  27. Cooperates with the office of collections at the Plainview Campus for the collection of overdue amounts.
  28. Insures compliance with all state, local and federal laws applicable to the campus.
  29. Responsible for vehicles owned by the campus, if applicable.
  30. Recommends the establishment of and oversees operations, evaluation and reporting of WBU activities on military establishments in the immediate area of the campus.
  31. Plans and implements Lifelong Learning/Continuing Education activities at the campus’ service area, if applicable.
  32. Conducts annual planning unit meetings and facilitates campus participation in Wayland’s planning, budgeting, and effectiveness program.
  33. Understands and consistently applies the policies and procedures of the University.
  34. Understands and consistently applies the policies and procedures of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in concert with recommendations and requests of WBU administrators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

An earned Doctorate in Adult Education, Higher Education Administration or a related area, or in a subject area in which courses are offered at the campus.

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Experience in post secondary teaching and/or administration.
  2. A deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and WBU in particular.
  3. An understanding of and commitment to work with educational programs related to churches, businesses, industries, and the military.
  4. Experience in the area of management and supervising staff.
  5. Experience in human relations and leadership is essential as well as being a practicing Christian (preferably Baptist or similar faith heritage).

 Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and possess the ability to learn and apply other applicable software programs adopted by the University.
  2. Must possess good verbal and written skills plus good listening skills.
  3. Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills.
  4. Ability to understand and interpret personnel policies and procedures.
  5. Ability to be flexible, prioritize and available to work extended hours as needed.
  6. Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employee must adhere to a personal and professional code of conduct consistent with the Christian values and mores of WBU.  Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
