Multidisciplinary Tutorial Services Assistant

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus 

SUPERVISED BY: Multidisciplinary Tutorial Services Director 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, approximately 29-hours-a-week 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Student Employees 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Multidisciplinary Tutorial Services Assistant supports the MTS Director by overseeing student tutorials and by maintaining the MTS’s academic documents and other records. This includes meeting with students one-on-one and in an online environment, and processing and/or developing a number of documents, reports, spreadsheets, databases, etc. and using a variety of computer, software, and office equipment.  Additional duties include processing the MTS’s data; maintaining various office files (faculty documents, student records, registration materials, etc.); providing general oversight of the MTS’s staff; greeting visitors; maintaining the phone lines; and assisting the Director in preparing schedules and appointments, and in organizing special reports or projects as assigned.                                                                                                                                                                

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Assist with face-to-face and online tutorials in coordination with other staff members
  2. Display ability to maintain confidentiality when functioning with sensitive material
  3. Develop documents, reports, spreadsheets, databases, etc. as necessary
  4. Establish and maintain various MTS files
  5. Assist in overseeing basic daily operations of MTS with minimal or no supervision
  6. Maintain MTS’s phone line tactfully and courteously
  7. Greet and interact with visitors, other employees, and students in a tactful and courteous manner
  8. Assist faculty clients with MTS activities and curriculum related support
  9. Supervise student employees as necessary
  10. Assist with special projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Certification and License:

Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; some college education required.

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Good understanding of the basics of English grammar, usage, etc.
  2. Past office-related or clerical experience required
  3. Experience with online environments
  4. Ability to apply Christian principles in the workplace

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; some knowledge of Spanish a plus
  2. Must have excellent computer skills (comfortable with Word, Excel, email, etc.) and be willing to acquire additional computer and technical skills as necessary
  3. Must have excellent time-management skills and be self-motivated and detailed-oriented
  4. Must be able to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously and function within a flexible framework

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
